William H. McCoy III, MD
Senior Physician Consultant
Dr. William McCoy has more than 25 years of clinical, business, and consulting experience assisting hospitals, health systems, physicians, and payers to manage, develop, and implement quality improvement and utilization methodologies. He is a recognized leader in clinical transformation through technology adoption and an expert in the clinical application of technology to provide high-quality, cost-effective healthcare.
Prior to joining The Bard Group, Dr. McCoy was a senior physician advisor at McKesson Provider Technologies, where he served as physician leader for technology adoption at a 2000-physician, multi-campus health system. In that role, he led initiatives that involved clinical work flow analysis and redesign, physician–hospital alignment strategies, and the use of evidence-based order sets to reduce variations in care. Earlier, as senior vice president of medical affairs at a merged healthcare system comprising three hospitals, five campuses, and 5000 employees (including 800 physicians), he oversaw the use of technology to reduce medical errors and improve healthcare quality
Forced to retire from a successful plastic surgical practice after a hand injury, Dr. McCoy redesigned his own career by studying the business aspects of medicine at Carnegie Mellon University and the Wharton School of Business. He became a consultant in independent practice in 1986.
