James H. Herndon, MD, MBA

Dr. Herndon is a Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who serves as a senior physician consultant. As a consultant, he focuses on clinical program strategies, specialty service line development, physician integration, and performance improvement.  He is a nationally recognized leader in academic program development, change management, and physician organization design.

After a number of years in private practice, Dr. Herndon enjoyed a distinguished career as a clinical and physician executive.  He developed or reorganized and led the major orthopaedic surgery departments of Brown University, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Partners Healthcare System (Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital) in Boston for over 25 years.

While at the University of Pittsburgh, he served as Vice President of Medical Services at the University of Pittsburgh Health Care System, developed its physician organization and practice plan, and served as Associate Senior Vice Chancellor for the Health Services.
